History Summarized: South Africa
History Summarized: South Africa HafrikTv Official 7 Views • 1 year ago

In the past few centuries, few corners of the African Continent were quite as busy as the south. It's a winding river from the first migrations and waves of colonists in the Cape Colonies to the Rainbow Nation we know today, so let's dive in and see how it all played out!

— Lastly, looking to modern times, it's important to recognize how the COVID crisis has exacerbated massive preexisting disparities between healthcare for Black and minority communities and that of white Americans. It's not enough to just acknowledge history, we all have a responsibility to understand modern problems and work on solutions. Why is Africa Still So Poor?
Why is Africa Still So Poor? HafrikTv Official 6 Views • 1 year ago

The African continent is famous for its poverty… But many people don’t know the complete reason why Africa is so poor. In this video we will look from the point when African countries were rich and powerful, how over the centuries Africa lost its wealth, and why Africa hasn’t been able to crawl out of it’s poverty while so many other countries and former colonies have.

Why South Africa is still so segregated
Why South Africa is still so segregated HafrikTv Official 3 Views • 1 year ago

How centuries of division built one of the most unequal countries on earth.

For decades, South Africa was under apartheid: a series of laws that divided people by race. Then, in the 1990s, those laws were dismantled. But many of the barriers they created continue to divide South Africans by skin color - which in turn determines their quality of life, access to jobs, and wealth. Racial division was built into the fabric of cities throughout South Africa, and it still hasn't been uprooted.

That's partly because, while apartheid was the culmination of South Africa's racial divisions, it wasn't the beginning of them. That story starts closer to the 1800s, when the British built a network of railroads that transformed the region's economy into one that excluded most Black people -- and then made that exclusion the law.

Booming cities on the eastern coast of Africa come in contact with dynastic China in the 8th century. For centuries, rumors and sporadic contact bring the two distant worlds ever closer. Then, in the 15th century, Zheng He leads a massive expedition to Africa. This is what he saw.
